Terms of use

Terms for using Lawyers List, the guide to US law firms by area of law. It gives no legal advice and creates no attorney-client relationship.

About these terms

These terms apply to your use of Lawyers List (lawyerslist.us), a free guide to law firms in large US cities, organized by area of law. By using the site you accept them.

Not legal advice

The lists and pages help you find and compare law firms. Nothing on the site is legal advice, and nothing here tells you whether you have a case, what it may be worth or which lawyer to hire. Laws and deadlines vary by state and change over time, and only a lawyer who knows the facts can advise you.

No attorney-client relationship

Using the site, or contacting a firm through it, does not create an attorney-client relationship with us or with any firm. That only begins when a lawyer agrees to represent you, usually in a written agreement. Messages sent through the site are not confidential, so do not include the details of your case.

We are not a law firm or a referral service

Lawyers List is not a law firm and not a lawyer referral service. It does not refer cases, book consultations or charge users, and it does not guarantee the quality, fees, availability or license status of any firm. A place on a list is not an endorsement. Any agreement for legal services is between you and the firm.

How the lists are made

From public information about each firm (the areas of law it handles, what its clients say about it, its contact details and hours) and the criteria set out in “How we select”. Firms on a Top plan appear in one of the first places on a list and firms on a Pro plan have a fuller page. Both carry a label, and neither is a check of the firm.

Check before you hire

We review the lists from time to time, but addresses, hours, fees and licenses change. Confirm the lawyer's license and any public discipline with the state bar or the state's highest court, and ask for the fee agreement in writing.

Firm pages and the business area

Whoever claims a firm's page confirms that they are authorized to manage it, that what they publish is accurate and not misleading, and that it follows the lawyer advertising rules of every state where the firm's lawyers are licensed. Firm pages must not promise results, and past results a firm describes do not mean a similar outcome in another case. We may edit or remove content that is inaccurate or misleading. The terms of each plan are shown in the business area.

What you may not do

Use the site for anything unlawful, copy its lists with automated tools, try to reach restricted areas, pretend to be another person or firm, or give false information.

Content

The texts, selection criteria, list order, name and design of Lawyers List belong to its owner or are used with permission. You may link to the site and quote it with credit. Reproducing a substantial part needs our permission.

Liability and changes

As far as the law allows, Lawyers List is not responsible for the legal services that listed firms provide, for what they say or for the content of other websites. Nothing here limits rights that cannot be limited by law. We may update these terms, and the version on this page is the one that applies.
